Senior Stress Engineer
Excited to be part of revolutionizing coastal air mobility? Let's talk!
Hello Noemi,
From sea to sky, from Norway to the world. At Elfly Group, we’re building the future of coastal mobility through the Noemi, the world’s first fully electric seaplane. Our versatile, 9 passenger electric seaplanes can also move up to one tonne of cargo - quietly and with no emissions. City harbor to city harbor? Easy. We’re amphibious too - requiring only short distances for takeoff and landing at traditional airports.
Elfly is a growing startup company with a multinational team of twentyfive employees. With us you will experience startup life where your voice will matter and days fly by. At least that’s how we feel about it :-)
We will make sure that you are warmly welcomed and will help you get settled with our technical team at Torp Airport, Sandefjord.
About the role:
As a Senior Stress Engineer, you will play a key role in developing, analyzing, and certifying the composite airframe structure of our all-electric seaplane. From conceptual design to detailed structural substantiation, you will work closely with the cross functional team, and certification authorities to ensure a safe, lightweight, and efficient aircraft structure.
Your expertise in composite layups, fatigue and damage tolerance analysis, and regulatory compliance (EASA CS-23, Part 21) will be instrumental in achieving certification and delivering an innovative aircraft that redefines coastal mobility.
Main responsibilities:
- Break down the airframe requirements according to EASA CS-23
- Support the design process from conceptual design through detailed design
- Analysis of composite layups using classical methods (laminate theory, hand calculations), where applicable
- Plan the composite material testing according to the building block approach
- Work closely with the team of design and stress engineers (internal and external)
- Write, review or approve structural substantiation reports that meet technical requirements for the program and certifying authorities (TCCA/FAA/EASA).
- Setup the aircraft GFEM / DFEM
- Assess primary and secondary structure and flight test installations
- Perform fatigue and damage tolerance analyses
What we believe you bring:
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Industry experience with structural analysis of composite materials, ideally in a EASA Part-21 Design Organisation
- Broad knowledge of aviation certification regulations and standards
- Knowledge of composite manufacturing and testing processes
- Proficient with CAD (at Elfly we use Onshape)
- Competence in NASTRAN, Femap or Abaqus FEA
- Fatigue and Damage Tolerance Analysis
- Fluent in English, written and spoken
- Strong communicational skills – able to engage with EASA, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Safety-focused mindset – ensuring all engineering activities align with airworthiness and risk mitigation.
- Structured & solution-oriented approach – thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Proactive & hands-on attitude – takes ownership and responsibility, driving real progress.
- A collaborative, flexible, and all-around awesome person 😊
Why join Elfly?
- Be at the forefront of electric aviation – shaping the future of sustainable, regional air travel.
- Work in a dynamic, ambitious startup with a mission-driven, passionate team.
- Lead a clean-sheet aircraft design – from early development to certification and production.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
The place of work is located at Torp Airport, Sandefjord situated by the southeast coastline, known for mild winters and vibrant summer life.
Elfly is an equal opportunity employer.
We are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination. Diversity of experience, perspectives, and background create a better work environment and better products. Whatever your identity, we will give your application fair consideration.
