Senior Stress Engineer
Excited to be part of revolutionizing coastal air mobility? Let's talk!
Hello Noemi,
From sea to sky, from Norway to the world. At Elfly Group, we’re building the future of coastal mobility through the Noemi, the world’s first fully electric seaplane. Our versatile, 9 passenger electric seaplanes can also move up to one tonne of cargo - quietly and with no emissions. City harbor to city harbor? Easy. We’re amphibious too - requiring only short distances for takeoff and landing at traditional airports.
Elfly is a growing startup company with a multinational team of twentyfive employees. With us you will experience startup life where your voice will matter and days fly by. At least that’s how we feel about it :-)
We will make sure that you are warmly welcomed and will help you get settled with our technical team at Torp Airport, Sandefjord.
About the role:
Elfly is seeking a passionate stress engineer who believes in the ability of urban air mobility to positively impact our cities. This role is an exciting position within the structures engineering team, as it allows for the engineer to interface with many disciplines within the company and assume a major role in the design of the aircraft. Prototypes are designed quickly and efficiently, meaning attention to detail is critical. The engineer will have experience analyzing aircraft structures, developing load cases, and preparing aircraft certification documents.
Main responsibilities:
- Conducting design trades, optimizations for final product configuration definitions considering safety, strength, weight, & producibility
- Extraction and utilization of finite element analysis internal loads data
- Detailed sizing, static, dynamic, damage tolerance, and modal analysis of major structural aircraft components utilizing both classical hand calculations and finite element analysis
- Composite ply stack optimization for weight reduction while maintaining manufacturing constraints
- Supporting design reviews and signing off on structural parts
- Overseeing and supporting structural tests, including definition, planning, requirements, and report writing
- Directly communicating with IPTs, design team, CVEs, and integration teams
What we believe you bring:
- B.S. in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or another relevant discipline
- 5+ years of working experience in relevant industry
- In-depth understanding of loading scenarios, free body diagrams, and structural behavior of aircraft components
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Highly proactive attitude with the ability to manage multiple assignments
Strong written and verbal communication skills - Advanced proficiency in finite element analysis, including nonlinear static and dynamic analysis of composite structures or metallic structures
- Ability to generate and review detailed analysis reports and aircraft type certification documents
- Proficiency with CAD
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced dynamic environment
- A collaborative, flexible, and all-around awesome person 😊
Why join Elfly?
- Be at the forefront of electric aviation – shaping the future of sustainable, regional air travel.
- Work in a dynamic, ambitious startup with a mission-driven, passionate team.
- Lead a clean-sheet aircraft design – from early development to certification and production.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
The place of work is located at Torp Airport, Sandefjord situated by the southeast coastline, known for mild winters and vibrant summer life.
Elfly is an equal opportunity employer.
We are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination. Diversity of experience, perspectives, and background create a better work environment and better products. Whatever your identity, we will give your application fair consideration.
