Chief Engineer & Head of Design Organisation
Are you the CE/HDO who will take the lead in driving both the technical development of our aircraft and the establishment of our DO?
Chief Engineer & Head of Design Organisation (CE/HDO)
Elfly AS is redefining coastal mobility with Noemi, the world's first fully electric seaplane. We are seeking a Chief Engineer & Head of Design Organisation (CE/HDO) to lead both the technical development of our aircraft and the establishment of our EASA Part 21J-approved Design Organisation (DO).
This dual role requires a strategic thinker, hands-on engineering leader, and compliance-driven professional to balance innovation with regulatory excellence. You will be instrumental in shaping our design, leading certification efforts, and driving technical decision-making.
Key responsibilities:
Technical leadership & aircraft development:
- Provide technical leadership across disciplines, making critical engineering decisions.
- Collaborate with the CTO and Head of Program to align technical strategies with business objectives.
- Optimize engineering resources and workflows, ensuring efficiency and high-impact results.
Design Organisation (DO) development & certification:
- Establish and develop the Elfly Design Organisation (DO), ensuring full compliance with EASA Part 21J.
- Engage directly with EASA and national authorities, managing certification processes and integrating regulatory requirements into aircraft design.
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
We recognize that candidates may have varying expertise across domains. However, a strong foundation in the following areas will be highly beneficial:
- Structures: Experience with lightweight composite materials, structural analysis, and airframe integrity to meet airworthiness and durability requirements.
- Flight Physics: Strong understanding of aerodynamics, stability, and control, particularly in electric aircraft.
- Electric Propulsion: Familiarity with battery integration, energy management, and aviation safety standards.
What we believe you bring:
- Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven leadership experience overseeing the full cycle of an aerospace program, from concept to certification.
- Extensive design experience across various aircraft systems.
- Advanced knowledge of EASA regulations, including Part 21J and CS-23.
- Previous work on seaplanes, electric aircraft, or composite-based programs is a plus.
- Strong communicational skills – able to engage with EASA, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.
- Safety-focused mindset – ensuring all engineering activities align with airworthiness and risk mitigation.
- Adaptable leadership style – capable of balancing technical decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Structured & solution-oriented approach – thrives in a fast-paced, startup environment.
- Proactive & hands-on attitude – takes ownership and responsibility, driving real progress.
- A collaborative, flexible, and all-around awesome person 😊
